VAT vs. Corporate Tax in the UAE: What's the Difference?

By Zenuro Editorial Team — Reviewed by ACCA (in progress) practitionersPublished 16 February 2026Updated 1 June 20261 min read

It's common for new business owners to conflate the two. VAT is transactional — it applies at the point of sale/purchase, regardless of profitability. Corporate Tax applies to net taxable profit at year-end, regardless of transaction volume.

A business can be VAT-registered and loss-making (still filing nil Corporate Tax liability), or profitable but below the VAT registration threshold. Both obligations need separate tracking on separate filing calendars.
